4 Home Resolutions to Tackle in 2017
With a new year comes new ambitions. Do you want to eat healthier? Get in shape? Be more productive? Maybe this is the year you’re going to pursue that hobby you’ve always loved but never made time for. Whatever it may be, the key to a positive change is creating an environment that will help you make the changes you want to make. Here are four household upgrades that will get you started down the right path.
1. Eating Healthy
You know how important it is to adopt a healthier diet. But you also know that eating healthier meals means cooking healthier meals. Unsurprisingly, adopting cleaner eating habits isn’t much fun when you don’t like your kitchen. If appliances are to blame, consider upgrading to high-performance, high-efficiency models. You’d be surprised how much fun it is to cook when you have the right tools. Then again, maybe a complete kitchen overhaul is what you need to kick off a healthier you. If you’ve been thinking about remodeling your kitchen, now’s the perfect time to talk to a pro.
2. Staying Fit
Dropping a few pounds and focusing more on fitness is on the majority of resolution lists for the new year. Of course, getting in shape is a whole lot easier when you’re able to work out without leaving your home. This year, instead of shelling out cash for an expensive gym membership, why not spend the money converting a spare bedroom into a home gym? Building a home gym is a project that’s a lot more doable than you might think -- especially when you all you need is a spare room or an unused corner of your basement. The best part is that your gym can be as simple or elaborate as you want to make it. Maybe all you need is space for your treadmill and a wall-mounted TV. Or, perhaps you're after cardio equipment, weights and an open space to do workout videos. Either way, if you’ve got the space and equipment, you’ve got a home gym.
3. Be More Productive
Whether you work out of the house or need a space to pursue personal projects, building a home office is a great way to increase productivity without getting out of your robe. When you begin to design your office, make sure to construct your workspace with productivity in mind (many home offices resemble a living room more than a workspace). This isn't to say that your office shouldn't be comfortable, but it's best to avoid any potential distractions while you're working. Also, to bypass any small annoyances, include plenty of outletsadequate lighting and plenty of storage.
4. Stress Less. Relax More.
Relaxing at the end of a long day is one of life’s simple pleasures. But, as much as we look forward to putting our feet up, it can be difficult to unwind if you don't have a space of your own. If you find yourself in need of stress-free zone, it's time for a basement remodel. Whether you’re doing a complete overhaul, installing a home theater, or building that game room you’ve always wanted, remodeling your basement is a project that improves the comfort and value of your home. Prices will vary depending on the size and type of the basement remodel you choose, but most HomeAdvisor users reported spending between $19,379 and $25,631 on their remodels.
