Q. When did you start working on this business and why?

A. I started this business during my college days. I really liked working with my hands, and woodworking became a natural fit. I also liked being in the field and working with people, so starting E-Z Kitchens was a natural progression for me.

Q. Why did you decide to try HomeAdvisor?

A. I had tried other online lead generation companies but had had really bad experiences, so I was very reluctant to sign up at first. My HomeAdvisor rep, however, was great, and I decided to dip my toe in the water with a small, initial spend target. It took about 3 months to get my first sale, but the more homeowners I contacted through HomeAdvisor, the more I realized that these were educated homeowners willing to listen to me. I haven't looked back since.

Q. Is there any difference in the types of homeowners you have found through HomeAdvisor?

A. I've found that the homeowners that come to me through HomeAdvisor are educated and willing to listen to my recommendations.

Q. Had you used any lead generation tactics before trying HomeAdvisor? What were your experiences like?

A. I used other lead generation companies before, but found that most of their salespeople would talk down to me despite the fact that I've been in business for over 25 years! They all guaranteed income and made empty promises on the phone, and then flooded me with leads that I could not contact. I also tried radio and cable TV advertising without a lot of success.

Q. Why have you continued to use HomeAdvisor?

A. HomeAdvisor has allowed me to increase my online presence in a way that I could not have achieved on my own, and connected me to serious customers willing to listen and work with me. More importantly, I've found the people at HomeAdvisor to be very knowledgeable about selling, lead generation, and my industry in general. They have great ideas and really care about me as a customer.

One time I called them because I wanted to increase my spend target. The rep I talked to told me that I could increase it a little bit, but to increase it as much as I wanted didn't make sense for me. I was pleasantly surprised to find out they were smart, caring, and really looking out for my business. It's not just the leads, but the HomeAdvisor people that make it a great partner.

The level of activity I get from HomeAdvisor is such that I sometimes need to turn my leads off because I don't have enough time to take on new projects. This season I was doing 4 - 5 houses a day! Having a steady stream of prospects and the flexibility to manage my flow of work using their tools have made HomeAdvisor a great asset to my business.

Q. What advice would you have for someone considering or just starting to use HomeAdvisor?

A. Be patient. There will always be some leads that don’t belong, but give it some time. Contact your leads as soon as you can and you will see that most of the names you get are people interested in doing some kind of work.
